What is the difference between Power Mask and EZ Mask?
Posted by Peter Moyer on 04 January 2008 12:23 AM
Both Power Mask and EZ Mask are masking tools capable of extracting almost any object in an image--even if you are dealing with fine hair detail, smoke, or reflections. EZ Mask requires less user input, but a rendering step is required. Power Mask requires more user interaction, but creates the mask in real time as you work and therefore does not require a final rendering step.

Power Mask
  • Workflow: Paint along the edge of the object to be extracted, and either the mask or the final composite can be revealed instantly. Fill the remaining areas and you are done.
  • Works at full resolution.
  • Uses less RAM than EZ Mask.
  • No rendering step is needed once the mask is completed.
EZ Mask
  • Workflow: Draw strokes to define foreground and background areas and process. Repeat until you have the desired results.
  • Works at a proxy resolution (smaller than full size) in the EZ Mask interface.
  • Uses more RAM than Power Mask.
  • Requires full resolution rendering as the final step.
